Sharing the experience of patient organisations specialising in patients with brain injury

Project duration: 09/2024 – 03/2025

This project initiative aims to improve the quality of care and support for patients with brain injury and aphasia through international cooperation between Iceland and the Czech Republic.

The purpose is to learn about the impact of the campaign of the Icelandic organization Heilaheill in terms of accelerating access to medical care for people with stroke symptoms through the SLAG app and to explore the potential for its use in the Czech Republic.

Furthermore, both Cerebrum and Heilaheill provide group communication training to their members. Heilaheill is now providing group communication training to its members with a focus on aphasia, using exercise books that are available in Iceland. The joint work of the two organisations will, among other things, consist of the preparation and publication of a practical booklet for group communication (speech therapy) for people with acquired brain damage.

The expected length of the booklet is approximately 70 pages. The booklet will be published in Czech and Icelandic or English. It will be available mainly electronically on the websites of Cerebrum and Heilaheill, and in limited quantities in printed form, for example at conferences of neurologists, clinical speech therapists and occupational therapists. At the same time, the booklet is suitable for community centres, day care centres, homes for the elderly, rehabilitation facilities, Alzheimer centres and hospitals where group speech therapy is provided. The booklet will be primarily aimed at patients with communication problems who have already undergone individual speech therapy and now wish to practice their knowledge in a group setting. The booklet will be available free of charge.
